The first paragraph will draw you into this weird, almost gothic of two sisters, Constance and Katherine 'Merrricat' Blackwood. I'll pour the tea, and tell you it is the story of the New England lackwood family, destroyed by mysterious murders, and the persecution of the sisters by the villagers who hate and fear them. The murders isolate the sisters from the outside world, and they depend deeply on each other. One a homebody, the other headstrong, both profoundly troubled. When an outsider disrupts their insular lives, the sisters struggle with unforeseen consequences that intensify to a terrifying conclusion. Otherness, family secrets, murder, this book is one of her best. Do you take sugar in your tea?
